Styling and Interview by Olivia Bastin, Stylist. Photography by Dorothy Greene, Photographer. Assistant Grace McWilliams, Stylist. Model and Interviewee, Sydney Woolf-Hoyle

St. Andrews, for such a small town, has a characteristically eclectic fashion scene. Our stylist Olivia interviewed Sydney Woolf-Hoyle to find out more about his statement vintage style about town!

OB: How would you describe the clothes you wear?

SWH: They are old fashioned, inspired by Jeeves and Wooster.  They represent my appreciation of vintage style from a stylistic and aesthetic perspective. They are influenced by military attire. I am particularly interested in 1920s and 1930 formal wear and extravagant suits.

OB: What is your favorite item in your closet?

SWH: it would have to be a 1950's Bostonian morning coat as it looks so elegant, and it is a good fit.

OB: How do you source your clothes?

SWH: I usually use eBay and online vintage clothes stores like Victory Vintage and Tweed man's which particularly cater to suits and formal wear. However, I always like to go to Jermyn Street and Savile Row in London to look at the fabulous suits there! Henry Poole and Co is a particular favourite!

OB: When was the first moment you became interested in vintage fashion?

SWH: it was the summer of 2018, and I found a double-breasted suit with the prince of Wales check and wide lapels that really spoke to me!

OB: How has London influenced your own sense of fashion?

SWH: London connected me to Jeeves and Wooster. Additionally, at school for my 6th form I could dress in my own suits. This really gave me chance to come into my own and develop my personal style. Moreover, the area I live in in London Peckham is very liberal in terms of fashion. Finally Jermy street played a major role when finding inspiration for the vintage fashion I wear!

OB: What are your favorite coloUrs for vintage fashion?

SWH: I like wearing dark green, dark red, butter yellow and a deep rich dark blue!
