Dressing For Your Sun Sign

Words by Keyona Fazli, Head Writer

I know, I know. Every single astrology girly out there will tell you that the best ways to figure out how to dress are to do so according to your rising and Venus signs. Today, however, I decided to look at the Sun sign to best examine how you can embody your initial signifier.

ARIES

Starting off with Aries, I would incorporate a lot of dark colours, purples, reds, really any colour to emphasise the intensity of the sign. As a fire sign, Aries are flashy but most certainly less so than their counterparts Leo and Sagittarius. Bulky shoes, accessories, stacks of layered jewellery, and headpieces such as scarves or even braids can be used to emphasise the sense of grandeur Aries have. Remember, Aries rules the head!

Taurus

Taurus can be considered the most carefully curated of the zodiac signs, with the earth sign’s wardrobe being full of fine materials such as silk, linen, and cashmere. Typical Tauruses are likely to have staple pieces in their collection – luxurious faux fur coats, lacy chemises, dainty kitten heels with bows. Associated with the neck, Taurusian jewellery complements this, as they can opt for stacked necklaces, chokers, or one-of-a-kind pendants to draw attention to the neck.

gemini

As the symbol of the twins, Geminis are often experimenters, mixing and matching different styles according to mood. What really pulls their sense of style together is a love for memorable, unique earrings and a piercing lip colour. To show off their arms and hands, you will also find Geminis shine with stacked bracelets, bangles, and rings. Funnily enough, though dark and/or black clothing is typically assumed to be a Scorpios best shade, Geminis thrive in the sleekness black attire offers.

cancer

Though they are water signs, Cancers are typically warm individuals in cool-coloured attire. Blues and silvers, typically muted and with assorted patterns, are often associated with Cancer Suns, and their style would benefit most from the incorporation of long chains and layered shirts. Connected to the chest and torso, Cancer Suns seek aesthetics that will protect them, opting for comfort alongside elegance.

leo

Leos are often associated with wild, unbridled hair, as well as the back and shoulders, so it would be unsurprising to see them in backless or off-the-shoulder fits. Often seeing themselves as the main character or the most iconic sign of the zodiac, Leos will be dazzling in almost everything they wear, but to highlight their boldness, I would recommend large sunglasses, wide hats, and bursts of bright colours such as gold and red.

virgo

When it comes to Virgo, you best believe those hips don’t lie. Crop tops and low-rise jeans are beloved by (most) Virgos, and they love nothing more than styling the ‘perfect’ fit. For the most meticulous Sun sign, it is all about either what can only be described as ‘earthy tones’, with blends of vibrant greens and browns, or full glam (think Zendaya and Beyoncé) with metallic colours and glitter. Virgos find the balance between the casual and the party, knowing when it is time to lounge in athleisurewear and when they must dress to the nines.

libra

For a night in, Libras can typically be found in neutrals, seeking comfort in loafers and simple pieces in classic linen, as well as comfortable but luxurious sweaters. On the town, Libras thrive in the bejewelled, as well as colours such as midnight blue, dusty pink, and mauve. Graceful as always, Libras should seek out their internal desires for balance and replicate them in their design choices. Keeping in mind that Libra rules the lower back (and bum!), low rise bottoms or even some Apple Bottom jeans (wink) would certainly be recurring fits in their wardrobe.

scorpio

A Scorpio is typically recognised for their sense of mystery, an illusiveness if you will. But the word that can best be used to describe their style is eclectic. They can either emanate the archetype of wistful faerie (billowing shirts, lace, ponytails, delicate footwear) or dark temptress (maroon lips, stiletto boots, chokers, sunglasses). As Scorpions’ focus point are their eyes (and their hips) it would not be an exaggeration to say that eye makeup – particularly smoky eyes – would complement their Sun sign, so make sure not to keep those shades on at all times!

sagittarius

Seemingly one of the most carefree signs, Sagittarius Suns are known for their sense of adventure and restless pursuit of discovery. Pieces such as statement flares, corduroy trousers, and long, flowing tunics accentuate their legs, and they are likely to gravitate towards earthy browns, particularly in their choice of boots and hats. Quite often, you’ll find Sagittarians feel most at home sporting a bohemian aesthetic, both able to fit into any crowd and attract attention.

capricorn

Ah yes, the workaholics, also known as Capricorns. But don’t worry, their attire isn’t boring, quite the opposite, in fact. Capricorns are all about the combination of practicality and sophistication, and they showcase this best in tailored blazers, camel-toned coats, and firm fitting maxi skirts with slits (to showcase the knees!). When it comes to the off-duty Capricorn, they maintain their elegance when opting for the simple T-shirt and dark denim combo.

aquarius

Aquarians have a reputation for being the most unique of the signs, and this is certainly true when it comes to the pieces they shine in. I always think of ‘The Age of Aquarius’ and the obsession with Space Age vintage, and it certainly seems that many Aquarians incorporate metallic or iridescent fabrics, as well as bright shades of purple and electric blues – violet and indigo. While every Aquarian is unique in their own way, I would say they all possess a certain artistic quality in their attire, whether they wear holographic sunglasses, graphic jeans, or embroidered sneakers.

pisces

Oh dreamy, sensitive Pisces, the most creative of the water signs. They are able to appear most ethereal through the silhouettes of their clothing, through light fabrics, beautiful baby blues and sea greens. Heavy on the beads and crystals, their aesthetic leans itself towards the mystical. As they are ruled by the feet, the type of shoes Pisceans wear are vital to their aesthetic. Though they prioritise comfort, they ensure their items are of high quality (I have seen many a Piscean in Air Jordans) and if ever wearing heels, you bet they are chunky to ensure a sense of stability.

Please bear in mind, these are only my thoughts and perceptions of the signs, and you may very well resonate with your rising sign here too! While astrology should never be the be all and end all of your fashion choices, I hope it may inspire some of them.
